Amy's Story

Amy is a fervent mental health advocate who discovered newfound inner peace through the ancient arts, particularly QiMen Dun Jia. Here is her story in her own words…

Living with schizophrenia for a significant part of my life, the journey before my diagnosis was a perplexing one. My family grappled with understanding what was happening — questioning if it was a spiritual possession or an impending descent into madness.

According to the Institute of Mental Health, schizophrenia is a major psychotic illness that involves the disorder of fragmented mental processes. Those who have schizophrenia usually suffer psychotic symptoms like hallucinations, disordered thinking, or abnormal behaviour.

My first schizophrenic episode unfolded with whispered urges to throw a potted plant from my school building at the age of 19. Over the next 30 years after that first experience, I've learned that emotional overwhelm or stress can trigger my psychosis.

Throughout this challenging journey, I've navigated various jobs, from a hawker assistant to a camp instructor, finding solace in flexible roles that allowed me to prioritize my mental well-being. As a single mother, flexibility has been crucial, affording me the space to care for my son and manage the unique challenges of living with a mother with schizophrenia.

Post-diagnosis, the path to mental well-being became clearer but not without its share of uncertainties. Through Chinese Metaphysics practices like QiMen Dun Jia and Bazi, I embarked on a journey of self-awareness, managing thoughts, emotions, and regulating behaviors.

In 2020, my path intersected with destiny when I first encountered my mentor and idol, Dato’ Joey Yap, one of the biggest authorities of classical feng shui and Chinese metaphysics in the world, at the Feng Shui Astrology event in Singapore.

Fast forward to June 2021, a pivotal moment when I shared my QiMen journey on the Joey Yap Qimen Academy's Facebook. This marked the inception of my FB live shows, a platform born out of courage and intuition.

In 2023, my journey took an even more remarkable turn. Selected for #AskJoeyYap YouTube, I discovered strength in support and gained confidence in charging fees for consultations, thanks to Dato Joey’s guidance.

Media outlets, including AsiaOne, MSNews, CNA, and LHZB, showcased my courage and shared my wisdom gained through my experience in schizophrenia on their platforms and publications. I am proud to have produced over forty videos on my YouTube channel as well as with The Royal Singapore, Joey Yap’s Mastery Academy, Nuren Secret Club, Women of Courage Asia, Silver Ribbon and other advocates including Moses Simon and Michelle Ow.

Looking back, I am grateful for the support received. Leading a contented life, I aspire to be a digital nomad, traveling the world, impacting lives on both mental well-being and metaphysical levels.

My journey began with a yearning for clarity, a desire to understand the cosmic forces shaping my destiny. This led me to delve into the profound insights of QiMen Dun Jia, an ancient Chinese metaphysical science for strategic planning and precise date selection. Now, I want to help others embark on their transformative journey, with Chinese Metaphysics.
