The Day Teenagers Taught Me Who Really Needs to Hear About QiMen

What happened when I spoke at the Grit Festival —and why burned-out professionals need this message more than anyone.
Standing in front of curious minds
October 22, 2025. Clementi Town Secondary School. I'm holding a small token from Principal Mdm Rasidah after speaking at their GRIT Festival—an annual celebration of resilience.

Ten speakers. Ten different stories of overcoming challenges—from physical disabilities to depression. Mine? How QiMen Dun Jia became a tool for navigating life with schizophrenia.
The format was simple: students chose which speaker they wanted to hear. About 15-20 teenagers chose me.
I walked in expecting polite attention. Instead, I got something far more powerful: genuine curiosity.
"What is QiMen—and how did it help your mental health?"
That's the question one student asked right after my introduction.
I gave them the truth: QiMen isn't magic. It's an ancient Chinese metaphysical system that uses patterns in time and space to help you make aligned decisions.
For someone who spent years feeling mentally foggy and disconnected, it gave me something modern approaches couldn't quite provide: structure when everything felt chaotic. A framework for understanding my internal patterns. Permission to trust myself again.
I shared how it helped me shift from scarcity mindset to abundance. How it guided me to create the InnerPeace Community—a space where people struggling emotionally or mentally can support each other.
The room was quiet. Not uncomfortable silence. The kind where people are actually listening.
Why teenagers got it—and why professionals need to hear it too
Here's what surprised me: these students weren't dismissive of ancient wisdom. They didn't see it as "woo-woo." They leaned in with questions.
For them, it was simply: "Why hasn't anyone told us about this before?"
And sitting with that question later, I realized: this is exactly how most high-functioning professionals feel when they discover there's another way.
If you're a working adult reading this—someone juggling deadlines, family expectations, and that creeping sense that achieving your goals isn't bringing the fulfillment you expected—this is for you.
You don't need to be in crisis to benefit from a different lens.
Are you :
Stuck in patterns that stopped working?
Tired of surface-level solutions?
Curious about practical tools that address timing, energy, and decision-making?
Ready to explore something beyond the usual wellness advice?
What QiMen offers that conventional approaches don't
QiMen Dun Jia is not a replacement for professional help. It's a complementary system that works alongside therapy, coaching, or whatever support you're already using.
What makes it different? It addresses:
Decision fatigue by revealing optimal timing for important moves
Strategic clarity when you're choosing between multiple paths
Energy alignment so you're not constantly swimming upstream
Pattern recognition that helps you understand why certain situations keep repeating
For Asian professionals especially—those of us navigating cultural expectations, workplace pressure, and the stigma around seeking traditional mental health support—QiMen offers a culturally-rooted approach that feels less clinical and more practical.
For the skeptical and pragmatic (I see you)
You've tried meditation apps you abandoned. You've considered coaching but haven't committed. You respect ancient wisdom but need it to make practical sense.
That's exactly the mindset I work with.
If you're curious about whether QiMen might help you gain clarity, reduce decision fatigue, or feel more in control of your path forward:
No pressure. No jargon. Just real conversation about whether this approach fits where you are right now.
Why this work matters
Walking out of that classroom, I felt something shift.
These weren't my usual corporate clients or community members. These were teenagers—the next generation—asking thoughtful questions about ancient wisdom and mental wellness without the baggage of stigma or skepticism that many adults carry.
If they can be open to exploring different approaches to mental clarity and decision-making, why can't we?
This work isn't just for people in crisis. It's for anyone still shaping their story and looking for tools that honor both where they come from and where they want to go.
Thank you, Club HEAL and Clementi Town Secondary School, for creating space for these conversations.
For corporate leaders and HR professionals: I offer speaking engagements on mental wellness that bridge ancient Chinese wisdom with modern workplace challenges. If your team needs fresh perspectives beyond standard wellness programming, let's connect.
